Hi, I’m Kevin Yoon, a golf professional at Pinecrest Golf Course. For over a decade, my goal has been simple: to make learning golf easier and more enjoyable.
My coaching approach isn’t the traditional one. I bring an engineering background and analytical mindset to help golfers understand their swing and improve more efficiently while keeping drills and concepts simple and easy to apply for players of all ages.
I grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia, a small college town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. At age 17, I was introduced to golf by one of my closest friends and met PGA Professional Steve Prater, who became one of the most influential mentors in my life. His encouragement and guidance went far beyond golf—he taught me invaluable lessons about life as well. From that moment on, I was hooked.
Within a year, I became a single-digit handicap player and earned multiple top-10 finishes in tournaments across the nation. In high school, I joined the varsity golf team alongside several outstanding players, all coached by Steve. Together, we went on to win three consecutive Virginia state championships.
My path ultimately led me toward education, and I pursued business and engineering degrees from George Washington University and Cornell University. Despite this, my passion for golf never faded. In 2010, I earned my teaching license from the United States Golf Teachers Federation and have remained in good standing ever since.
I am currently a teaching professional at Pinecrest Golf Course in Alexandria, Virginia. I combine my playing experience with my engineering and analytical background to help students understand not just what they do in their golf swing, but why they do it.
I approach coaching in a systematic, logical way that helps golfers learn more efficiently and confidently. I look forward to the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for the game with you. I offer lessons in both English and Korean.
Everything I’ve built in golf has been possible with the full support of my loving mother, whose encouragement has been a constant throughout my journey.
